Anew

What? You said you were eager to start a new chapter in your life? I say, go for it! It is never too late to drop bad habits and create new healthy ones. Whatever your goal, be it to loose weight, to look better, to feel better, or just simply to feel healthier, I am here to help.

It has taken me many attempts and trials before I have taken real action. My goal is to loose weight so I can become better at running. Yes, I have taken up running, once again after I had dropped it for many years, and have so far completed three 5K races. There are some other ones I will be signing up this year and I intent to improve my personal time.

My colleagues at my workplace started their "Couch to 5K" program earlier this year, and because I had already been a runner in the past, I decided to so-called-join at my own pace. My routines were different and I was not going to start with a slow interval training. I set my goals and started with some short runs through the neighborhood. The first few times I ran barely 10 minutes in one stretch. Remember, I had done this in the past and very well knew of what I was capable.

After a week, I dared to run at a trail here in my town. I ran 1 mile, walked 2/10 of a mile, and returned running 1 mile back to the car. I was elated at my accomplishment, and from there on it was a piece of cake to increase the running distance. About three weeks later and three runs a week, I was able to run 2.5 miles in one go. This is when I decided I needed an outside motivation to keep me running.

Since then I have attended three 5K in town and as the summer has been progressing, I will sign up for some more runs. I still run every other day and am trying to up the intensity of my runs (to run on more days during the week).

So, as you can read, often we have to take small steps and change one thing at a time to achieve success. Each of us has a different approach, and whichever path we choose, the most important aspect on this journey is to recognize the benefits to our health.

To a healthier lifestyle!
